Phyllanthus niruri |
Phyllanthus niruri or Pokok dukung anak in Malay is precious village herb and is traditionally used by Malays to treat jaundice. It is quite common to find this herb among weeds in the garden.
Dukung Anak is also widely used in India, China and Thailand as liver protecting agent and anti-Hepatitis B agent. It has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for over 2,000 years.
Fresh leaves are ground to a paste and mixed with fresh goat’s milk and taken once a day for a few days to restore liver health. |
|
| This herb also shows potential for cholesterol-lowering effects. Some recent human studies also reported its detoxifying action in children with hepatitis and jaundice. British researchers reported that children treated with a Phyllanthus extract for acute hepatitis had liver function return to normal within a few days. |
