Piper betel |
Piper betel or Sirih in Malay, leaves taken with gambir treat diarrhea. As poultice it helps to relieve abdominal pain, coughs and asthma.
Leaf sap is applied to soothe oral sores and ulcers. Traditionally, the leaf is eaten to improve taste and appetite.
An aphrodisiac, a laxative, a tonic to the brain, heart and liver; it strengthens teeth, and clears throat infections and bronchitis. An aqueous paste of the leaves applied externally suppresses boils. |

| In open wounds, the paste is prepared by mixing the leaves with til (gingelly) oil, and applied externally to speed up the healing. These leaves are also used in Chinese folk medicine for the treatment of various disorders and to protect liver. |
